This week has been magical. Here are a few highlights.

  • The snow. It’s obvious and it’s beautiful. I feel so fickle as just last week I was declaring how there were still so many autumnal colours to enjoy and that I wasn’t done with Autumn just yet… is it possible to change one’s mind so quickly? I am now entirely embracing the arrival of winter and all the gorgeous delights that come with it. Someone in the Time Foragers’ Club said to me:“maybe that’s just living in the moment”. I think she’s right.

  • a visit to the Hemswell Antiques with my friend Susie on Monday. How I love antiques and things of the past!! They make me so happy. I picked up a few tiny tins for yesterday’s zoom call.

  • Yesterday’s Tiny Tinned Treasures zoom call!! It was a such blast to create tiny treasures to fit into tins along with guest Margaux Kent and another 100 or so participants. I got super nervous when everyone came in from the waiting room and had a mini panicked minute (I struggled to find how to focus on both Margaux and her desk camera…and mine too… I’m learning and Samantha Dion Baker swiftly came to the rescue. Sam, you’re the best! A million times thank you). We will share the recording soon. I know so many of you wanted to join and the waiting list was long. Thanks so much for your enthusiasm. We absolutely LOVED all the projects we got to see yesterday and can’t wait to see more.

  • painting the snow plein air. More on that further down.

A few tins and my visual journals of the week

For this spread, I used:

  • Tombow (I’m using them while I have them but probably won’t purchase any more after this due to the plastic content) to create boxes for the journaling records.

  • Holbein acrylic gouache for the landscape of the church. I used any left over paint onto other projects like the sketchbook work of the same church, the winter landscape concertina and the still life blooms on Arches which I’m showing and selling next Saturday at the Corn Exchange in Doncaster.

  • FW Daler Rowney Red Earth ink for some trees

  • Neocolour II to add line work for the lines of the church and more branches of the trees

  • Kaweco fountain pen for the journaling

Some sketchbook work from this week

The orange and blue combo always delights me. I don’t know which one I prefer but I do love the more abstract one (top right) which is in a Pith sketchbook.

Which one doe you prefer and why? tope left, top right or bottom left?

Below are some more pics from my plein air sketching this week in freezing conditions. Hence all the blue!!

Despite having these gloves on, I got very cold, very quickly. I’ve drafted a post on winter plein air painting which I hope to post in coming days with a few tips and even things I’ve learnt this week. Until then, I hope you’re having a great week.
