a week of reds and greens and a photo of me, taken by my middle son

Share

Hello!! How are you?

Today I thought I’d share with you some of the objects and colours that inspired me this week in my featured video (above). Also I’ve included my usual Timelapse and some photos.

I’d love to know what’s inspired you this week. What colours popped out? What caught your attention?

Some highlights of the week

  • finding some gems at the antique shop on Friday (see video above)

  • drawing my favourite French island on Tuesday night with the club and relieved the Californian earthquake some felt was a small one

  • enjoying what my garden has to offer just now - from the tall foxgloves to the tiny violets, there’s so much to appreciate

  • creme caramels

  • reading Carson Ellis’ book Home (for the 100th time, it’s a firm favourite with our boys) and finding inspiration from her limited palette which includes red and blue

  • prepping a drawing session with Beth Spencer on all things strawberry and remembering the smell of my Strawberry Shortcake doll. And the little cat friend. Although I’m not sure it too smelt of strawberry, does anyone know?

  • painting nectarines and finding inspiration from the orange in the front cover of an old copy of Pilgrim’s Progress

  • finishing editing my Travel Sketchbook (part 2) video and feeling quite thankful for how beautiful that trip was (watch a little snippet below)

  • thankful for anti-hestamine

  • doing an impromptu LIVE painting session of my garden notes along with Emma Carpendale yesterday (this was free for all subscribers). I was meant to go to Chatsworth to celebrate 250 years of Jane Austen but my hayfever got really bad so staying indoors was a wiser option

some of my journals before the sun sets
  • sipping a delightful coffee (with creme) at a friend’s yesterday while the boys were splashing in their pool

  • caring for my growing dahlias outside and dreaming of seeing their gorgeous colours popping out in a few weeks

THANK YOU

As a thank you for your lovely comments and the glorious feedback of all who took the time to answer the subscribers’ survey last week, I thought I’d share a little snippet of this month’s video Travel Sketchbooks (Part 2): Come with me to the Lake District. This was in the Lake District and I painted some of this landscape in my Oroblanco Pith sketchbook. This video comes after last' month’s Travel Sketchbook (Part 1) which focused on materials, layout, composition and more. I’m slightly out of breathe at first as I just walked up the hill! Enjoy the view and seeing the sheep up close!!

Oh and I just love how the video ends then you see my face with my tongue hanging out, very elegant!!

Cute Antique Tins: In the above video I mentioned the Tinny Tinned Treasures Creative call I had the pleasure of hosting end of 2024 along with Margaux Kent from the legendary Peg & Awl. This replay is free for all and is brilliant if you want to create a personalised gift for someone special (that can be yourself). It can be watched at any time of year but especially if you’ve got a little bit of time to day dream and be creative. Or on the run up to Christmas. But don’t worry, I’ll remind you.
