My Most Magical Moments from This Week

As you’ve already seen, it involved lots of blooms, sunshine, then rain and lots of birthday cake.

  • getting away with my friend Amy on Saturday to one of our favourite coffee shops and bakery: The Leys. I had dark choc cake with a very light strawberry ganache. A dream to eat and to draw.

  • considering how wonderful Psalm 23 really is while at our local church on Sunday morning.

  • having lunch with friends out on their patio, sitting under their gorgeous olive tree and seeing everything as possible still life props. Plus Daisy’s Bakewell tart was the absolute best I’ve ever tasted.

  • meeting up my friend Denise in York on Monday, enjoying coffee at Brew & Brownie (I taught a calligraphy workshop there years ago and they are such a wonderful team), visiting more antique shops and stopping at The Treasurer’s House garden, just behind the minster. The garden had beautiful peonies and irises and we sat on the lawn next to the fountain which was delightful. I will include some of this in this month’s club video.

  • discovering Grays Court in York solo (after seeing Denise) and taking in the dreamy charm of their interiors and their back garden. I had elderflower tonic and some little avocado tacos in a sun trapped patio surrounded by roses.

  • tidying my studio after the mammoth still life collection packaging effort AND school holidays (I tend to dump things in the studio, no one else’s fault but mine) - having a messy studio is a blessing, having a tidy studio is a complete joy.

  • finding my 4 committee badges which I bought a few weeks back in a very old and messy antique shop. I found them so charming and bought 4. One for each of the March sisters in Little Women of course! Haven’t decided what I’m actually going to do with them yet.

  • drawing Bolivian landscapes and flamingos, in a session organised by Emma Carpendale and Natasha Cross.

  • going LIVE to start these journals on Thursday morning. It was raining outside and it was such a lovely way to start reflecting on the week. I’ll do more of these for paid subscribers.

  • rediscovering favourite pencils because what’s better than freshly sharpened pencils…. and playing lots with the Derwent Intense Pink Flamingo 0405 pencil I bought at the Derwent pencil factory. See below…

  • going out with my friend Joanne for more coffee and cake (it was mango this time), I know, it’s completely hilarious at this point but life is too short to not have cake.

Pencil of the week prize goes to this Derwent Intense Pink Flamingo 0405, so hot and so lush. I mean, look at it….

What’s your favourite pencil these days? I’d love to know!!
