Happy Saturday!
I hope you’ve had a good week. It’s been very sunny here and the still life challenge has been so much fun! This week I suddenly felt my hay fever start and have felt a bit miserable with it today (despite taking medication) so at first my brain wasn’t really wanting to engage with these visual journals. But then this morning while I was at the play park with the kids, I sat on a bench in the sun and took some time to reflect and consider my week. And then I texted myself this list of highlights. I actually got my kids involved too as they sat next to me on the bench. I asked them first what their highlights had been and then what they thought my highlights had been which was a fun activity.

HIGHLIGHTS of the WEEK
Magical moments of the week:
seeing our espalier apple tree blossoms appear after several years of training it up our fence
clumber park picnic with friends
Mike made us the best mojitos
blue skies all week (lunches outdoors and laundry out)
study 4 masterpieces of still life in the club. Looking at art by Cezanne, Gauguin, Matisse and van Gogh was so lovely and fun.
continuing to paint the coastline of Filey several times in a row and really going deep into colour experimentation
ice cream salted caramel with a flake in it (thanks Adam and Judith)
painting a still life using the plate I bought in Filey last week for 50p
making a rhubarb crumble with freshly picked rhubarb from the walled garden at Clumber park
receiving little paper gifts from Ezra
standing under cherry tree blossoms and just admiring the beauty of the pink blossoms
seeing the first few bluebells coming up and knowing that in a week they’ll be completely gorgeous

Materials I used today
pink prismacolor pencil (PC929) for a rough layout
Seawhite of Brighton tempera gouache set
Neocolor II for some marks
Kaweco fountain pen for writing and illustrations
D 098 Navy Holbein gouache at the end for shadow
Thanks to everyone taking part in the still life challenge. It’s been so amazing seeing everyone’s artwork. Anyone can take part, all you need to do is draw a still life and either share in your Instagram stories and tag me to reshare or post in our club chat (exclusive to paying members). If you missed them, the gazette has links on the topic (it’s free).
Wishing you a fabulous weekend! xx
