Studio Space
This week I started actively searching for a suitable studio space outside our home. Up until now, it hasn’t really been something I wanted, as creating at home has been wonderful and has meant I can be flexible, especially when my kids being so young. But recently, as my craft and art is developing and the boys are getting more independent, I’m considering what that separation between work and home life would feel like. With this in view, Mike and I took Wednesday morning off to go visit the studio spaces available on the Welbeck Estate. The place is a dream (think art gallery with a Michelangelo piece, coffee shop, garden nursery, farm shop with deli and bakery and fresh fruit and veg from the working walled garden) but the 40mins drive feels too far. I’m thinking it all through and searching closer. I might find a place which could work for a few weeks… or for longer. We shall see!
The treasure hunt is on!

Highlights of the week
baking a banoffee pie and enjoying it with our neighbour Sue (her dog Olli came to visit too - he’s so adorable)
walking around a local village called Bawtry with Mike and the kids on Saturday
having a picnic in the woods and enjoying the bluebells
doing work outs with our boys after school - they are highly motivational personal trainers
standing under the cherry tree blossoms, and really all the blossoms….delightful
diving deep into my mini still life collection while listening to Jane Eyre on Audible and noticing so many similarities between the first few chapters of Jane Eyre and Harry Potter (which the boys are listening to on Audible as well as LOTR).
a lunch date with Mike at Welbeck estate after seeing the studios (see photos above)
Materials used
Caran D’Ache Neocolor II pastels
Seawhite of Brighton gouache tempera
Kaweco fountain pen (black ink)
Mini Still Life Originals
One of my biggest highlights this week was getting several emails with people enquiring about purchasing my artwork. I’m hoping to sell a collection of mini paper originals in early May, followed by another collection of canvas work later in the Spring. I will let you know the dates here as early as possible.
There are 20 of these original still life pieces, size A5 (148x210cm). All were created with the same materials as listed above, pastels and gouache, on cold pressed watercolour paper (350gsm/150lb). I will be sending worldwide.
Thanks for reading
Also hi to any new folk! It’s been so lovely to “meet” some new folk around here! Welcome!! I send out these visual journals every week on a Saturday morning to all my subscribers and they appear in the club archives. It means so much that you’re enjoying them and hopefully it’s inspiring you to find the magical in the mundane.
Club dates for your diary: the club GAZETTE on the 1st of every month (free), every Saturday my visual journals (free) and next month we’ll be talking a lot about travel journaling both at home and abroad.
Until then, sending love xx
