I overworked a piece just yesterday by the old church and I’m trying to find ways of learning from my “mistakes” while trying to salvage the piece. To know when a piece is finished is a very personal thing. But I do think you learn with time and practice and perseverance when a piece feels finished.
Yes, I’m started to feel when it’s done better than I used to, and hold back the urgency to keep adding, it’s kind of like overeating!! I have to stop and pause for a bit!
Scotland is my dream :-) Thanks for sharing with us your lovely photos and sketches. This week I visited Cracov for a city break and I spent a lot of time in my kitchen. I mostly baked…still in pumpkin season. It’s getting cold recently in Poland and here in the mountains we have frosty, foggy and wet mornings a warm oatmeal with pumpkin and pear mousse or pumpkin soup is really nice way to warm yourself :-) I hope you are well. Have a nice evening!
Oh Ela, somehow I missed seeing this, this is completely delightful to read. The frost and fog sound enchanting. I’m intrigued by pumpkin and pear mousse, sounds wonderful. I hope you are over your cold by now.
Hi Helen, thanks I feel much better now :-) You should try this mousse. It tastes like a mango ;-) It so simple to do just bake or cook pumpkin and pears in separate pot (without skins) and blend with cinnamon and cardamom or with any spices you like. Sometimes I add a banana to the mousse and a blob of yoghurt on the top. Highly recommended:-) Have a wonderful day and see you this evening!
Helen, I love this little visit with you on Saturday mornings. My dad was from Scotland and I dabble in watercolors so this is a bit like coming home ...
Looks like an amazing trip and you have such beautiful pieces to show for it! Love seeing your sketches.
Overworking pieces is something I do all the time, any suggestions how to break that bad habit would be greatly appreciated.

Yes! Exactly. And maybe leave a few hours or days. And it may seem very different when you come back.
