Hi and happy Saturday!!

I hope you’ve had a good week.

The last few days have been soooooo grey here in Yorkshire, I can’t recall a time this gloomy here, so of course, I had to include the colour GREY in this week’s visual journals. In today’s notes, I’m logging my discontent with these grey skies and the effect it is having on my mood. I have struggled a little with motivation and lethargy but I do know this too shall pass!!!

The consistency of journaling has definitely helped. From random doodles to deep thoughts, just having a time and place to reflect on my week and “dump” them onto paper will be rewarding. At some point. Not feeling it yet but I know it will.

Digging out some old sketchbooks has sparked creativity and has helped me appreciate the season. I’ve enjoying revisiting sketchbooks of trips to Paris especially as I was doing a drawing Paris in Winter call with Samantha Dion Baker. It was such a delightful time to visit Paris and enjoy its bare bones. With cafe terraces and art museums, art shops and pops of yellow with daffodils and bunches of mimosa. Our garden mimosa (which I planted only a few months ago) is in full bloom now and looking through old sketchbooks of trips to Paris reminded me of why I planted mimosa in the first place! It was specifically to help me at this time of year!

Highlights of the week

  • baking scones. I never bake scones. Why is that? They’re so good and so easy. They are so friendly too.

  • having friends over for lunch (and enjoying said scones) plus pink donuts with sprinkles on top. And coffee. Coffee is a big part of my life these days. Anyone else??

  • observing the fascinating shape of both female and male catkins on the alder trees against grey skies. More on these glorious British trees here.

  • watching Miss Austen on BBCplayer in one go. A story from the perspective of Cassandra Austen (Jane Austen’s sister). I’d love to know your thoughts on it if you’ve watched it.

  • decluttering with club members Tuesday evening. It was cozy and constructive and I created more order.

  • seeing a beautiful robin on a walk, stopping and exchanging a long stare.

  • re-visiting some sketches from trips to Paris and creating the keynote for the Winter in Paris drawing zoom.
