This Week's Visual Journals

Week 32-34 of 2024
6

This was a bit of a journaling marathon, catching up on 3 weeks in one go. The month of August has flown by.

Highlights of week 32 of 2024

  • Picnics at the play park and blackberry picking, then making crumbles back at home (I will share this family recipe in the first Time Foragers’ Club Gazette next month).

  • Meeting up with artist Melissa Lakey in London to sketch plain air. After eyeing up the gorgeous books and stationery in the British Library shop, we got stuck in the rain on our walk to Cornelissen’s. So we got our sketchbooks out and drew! It rained so much water was bouncing off my sketchbook pages, resulting in a fun experimental session. We eventually found an Italian coffee shop where we could sit under cover outside and draw some more (and didn’t get soaked!!) then finally made our way to what might be the very best art shop in England where I bought my first ever muller.

Highlights of week 33 of 2024

  • Going to a circus in Sheffield. I hadn’t been to one since I was a little kid. This one didn’t have animals involved which was a relief and we had a magical time.

  • Sorting out our Ikea craft trolley. It needed done.

  • Going to our best local beach (1h30 drive) in Bridlington, on the east coast.

  • Seeing the boys write and draw posters, creating a little bundle of treasures to send to the new pan pals they met in our campsite in Cornwall.

  • More play park picnics with friends.

Note: The paint from the next page came through onto the date. This is where the thickness of the paper has a role to play but I quite like it like this.

Highlights of week 34 of 2024

  • Learning foundational cricket skills on the lawn of Haxey with our friend Alison. Don’t quiz us please!

  • Making our own strawberry and blackberry ice cream with the berries we picked ourselves (see this earlier strawberry post in July).

  • Drawing our back garden blooms.

  • Making a treasure hunt map with Ezra for his brothers.

A FEW NOTICES

I will soon be announcing the launch date for the Time Foragers’ Club. Keep your eyes peeled for little challenges and pre-launch prizes in coming days in my NOTES. The Club already has a few dates in the September calendar for paid members with some very special co-hosts. More on this very soon!!

We’re continuing to get ready for school starting back and we have our uniforms ready. Next week will be quite eventful with 2 new schools. As for me, I’m very excited to get stuck back into work in the studio again and getting more into a routine.

I hope you’re all doing well.

Talk soon. xx
