Hello, hope you’re well!
Summer is HERE! Hooray!! Happy Solstice!!!
At the minute I’m thinking A LOT about colours. Specifically summer colours. So let me ask you, which colours evoke summertime THE MOST to you? If you were to pick 4, which ones would they be and why?
Summer colours to me mean turquoise, peachy corals, oranges and of course red (strawberries, watermelon, geraniums, the list goes on)!!
TODAY’s PROCESS
applied tape in 3 spots (brand: Reliable Source)
painted watercolour and gouache
journaled my week day by day with fountain pen
added little illustrations (and in so doing cover the accidental smudges)
added details such as shadows and lettering with pencil and Neo-color II
swatched each used colour as I go along
added little violets inspired by the ones in my garden
it’s a hot day so I’m using a folded piece of paper to lean on so that I won’t smudge any more

HIGHLIGHTS
seeing a goldfinch suspended on the cornflower stems munching away
drawing violets in the back garden
studying still life by Cezanne (and his landscapes, love his houses especially) and drawing nectarines
having fun on bouncy castles and eating candy floss at our church Family Fun Day on Saturday
indulging in a Father’s Day roast with Yorkshire puddings
shopping with my friend Penny at Meadowhall (a very large shopping mall) and spotting all the gorgeous shades of corals and pinks in a lot of clothes on display… and especially pjs
painting my studio lampshade along with club members
getting our summer swimming pool out and REALLY enjoying a more relaxed time as a parent now that my youngest knows how to swim (complete game changer)
putting a bouquet of peonies together along with cornflower and jasmine from the garden for a friend who’s going through cancer treatment. I kept one of the peonies that didn’t look quite right in the bouquet and turns out it gave me so much joy throughout the week!

A SUMMER CELEBRATION
To celebrate the arrival of summertime I will be going LIVE with my friend Raj at 9am BST today to chat summer colours, do some swatching and draw some lovely summery treats on our table/desk. Do join us!
I will post in the club chat (exclusive to paying members) an image of what I’ll be drawing so maybe you can join too (hint: it will involve fruit but you knew that, didn’t you!!). Or even better, create your own summer still life and draw it, just for fun!!
Thanks for reading!
Have a great weekend and…. HAPPY SUMMER! (or winter depending on where you live) xxx
Quick Note: This is a free post for subscribers but you can also become a Time Foragers’ Club paid subscriber and meet up on Zoom 3 times a month (we draw, create and journal) AND also watch a monthly video (from my studio) PLUS chat with our blossoming creative community in our exclusive threads.
