This week has been marked by 2 incredible trips to Sheffield by train. The colours, the vibe of the place, the energy, the exhibition on the works of William Morris, John Ruskin and Bauhaus at the Millennium Gallery. I was so inspired by my visit on Saturday that I went back on Thursday for a talk on the life of William Morris (so interesting). I have so much to share about these trips and I’m in the process of making a video showing the town, bits of the exhibition (it is truly amazing and finishes this Sunday), one of my favourite independent shops in Sheffield, and my sketchbook pages from the day, as well as my thoughts and impressions of what I’ve been learning from the exhibition.
In the meantime, here is the visual journaling process for this week. Two videos, one with watercolour using the colours which stood out most in Sheffield (my sketchbook on the left are the colours I painted straight after the first visit) and the second with ink work and pencil, neocolor pastel and a little touch of red gouache. The colour red ties in together the red bricks of Sheffield as well as the rosehips which I spotted on my daily walks. I’ve expressed an interest in picking the last of the local rosehips to my family, I’ll see if anyone joins or if indeed I have the energy. This weekend we’re hoping to take it really slow and easy, our middle child requested that we “lounge around”. So we’ll see.
This is so beautiful! 🤍 It’s so lovely to find people on here that aren’t overly far away. I’m only 30 minutes away from Sheffield in the next town.
Hello fellow Helen, so glad to have discovered you. Your journal spreads are beautiful. I'm going to show them to my eldest when she gets home from school. She journals a lot and paints a lot so I think she'll be massively inspired by them. I write about journaling too but more from a wordy perspective. But if you'd ever like to chat about a collaboration type thing I'd love that x
