Celebrating week 10 of my weekly visual journals with a sampler spread. Like last week I did this one in many sittings, mostly from my sofa while I’m still recovering from Covid with continued extreme fatigue.
Below is a pic from where I’d left things last night. At which point I had been a little frustrated and added gouache on top of some lettering I disliked. My unhelpful inner critic was having a big debate with the other helpful inner critic, the one who has had years of art history and theory and appreciation of beautiful things. The debate wasn’t super pretty and got me tired. In the end, this is the best I could do with what I had (created). But again, I’m very pleased to have a spread representing that chaotic moment in time, because that’s part of the beauty of journaling too! Life is not perfect and I’m okay with my visual journals reflecting this.
Already I’m looking forward to turning this page and creating another one next weekend. I really hope to be getting back to my desk soon, hopefully I’ll manage more process videos for my visual journals. I find it interesting to realise that after filming the process for 8 weeks in a row, I now consider that method to be the norm. All things considered, if I’m feeling well in myself, my favourite spot to journal is my desk.
Highlights of the week:
Food delivered from friends, so kind. Trying to work on 2 pieces for a competition on bravery, I’ll share more on this soon. The boys dressing up for World Book Day as Newt Scamander, Harry Potter and Peter Pan. Seeing bluetits in our garden, at one point there 4 of them. Receiving a parcel from my mum in the post of vitamin sachets, made in Ireland.
What have your highlights been? Are you taking time to journal this weekend? Where’s your favourite spot to sit to journal?
Wishing you a lovely weekend and if like us enjoy watching rugby, then happy 6 Nations!
I love to see your journal pages! I've done some art journals in the past but I'm too much of a perfectionist and I find that it takes me ages to just get started!!
I hope you're feeling better again soon.
Happy Six Nations to you too!! It's been quite a weekend and should make for a very exciting Super Saturday next week!
I haven’t been journaling (besides my daily bullets) much lately, but I have been drawing in my sketchbook almost every day. I’m drawing ten little things (ie owls, desserts, leafy plants) a day for the 100 Day Project. It’s been a way to get some intentional practice.
Feel better soon!
